Family Island Garden

In the Šakiai district, at a farming family’s homestead, a landscape project was prepared where a personal family story, functional solutions, and aesthetic harmony intertwine. Across the large property, the designed spaces connect the main house, the guest area, the utility/farm zone, and the edge of the forest into one cohesive environment. The central idea of the project became the “family hill”—a mound planted with perennials whose blooming periods are linked to each family member’s birthday. This concept is complemented by themed “islands” that distill different functions: relaxation, socializing, privacy, and a connection with nature. Next to the main house, a terrace was planned and planted with airy, lightly structured herbaceous plants that soften the lines of the modern architecture. Nearby, among rhododendrons, miscanthus grasses, and natural stones, a fire-pit area was created. Here, function and aesthetics come together—large stones serve as seating and contrast with the soft silhouettes of the plants. On the southern side, a shaped honey locust tree was preserved, and behind it a hydrangea path is planned, leading toward the center of the homestead. In the northern part, a more enclosed yet bright terrace was designed, with a view of the forest. As evening falls, the setting is enhanced by thoughtfully planned lighting that highlights tree canopies and individual planting accents. The designed space is oriented around the rhythm of family life—spacious yet cozy, functional, and personal. Each family member has their own place, their own time—and their own bloom.
